Five Treatments

Rarely are we born with less than perfect skin. However, with time, imperfections manifest themselves. Although these are usually harmless (the majority are not skin cancers), often they are unwanted and if located in a visible area, can cause self consciousness. Traditional removal with a scalpel usually left an undesirable scar. We now have better options.

Radiosurgery

Radiosurgery is a gentle, effective means of removing elevated moles and skin lesions. Use of ultra-high-frequency radiowaves allows precise control resulting in much less damage to the surrounding tissue. Therefore, risk of scarring is minimized or eliminated, and healing is faster.  There is little or no bleeding, and sutures are rarely required. Bruising and swelling are uncommon. The cosmetic results are excellent.

Laser

Treatment of flat, pigmented moles, freckles or birthmarks is best addressed with a Q Switched laser (see Laser Tattoo Removal).

Cryotherapy

In 3000 B.C., the use of cold for medical treatment was first recorded. Over the last 100 years this modality has gained popularity. Liquid Nitrogen is now the cryogen (freezing agent) of choice. Tissues frozen to temperatures less than 50 degrees Centigrade will result in cellular death and lesion destruction. No anesthetic is required, and treatment is quick and virtually pain free.

Following treatment, a blister may develop. Within a week it will dry, form a scab and then fall off. The healing phase is painless. Depigmentation (lightening) of the treated skin may occur, but the pigment normally returns after several months.

Most superficial lesions such as warts, actinic keratoses (precancerous skin lesions) and seborrheic keratoses (brown wart-like lesions, which appear with age) are amenable to treatment.
