Kybella Treatment for Double Chin
Did you know that about two-thirds of us are bothered by submental fullness? Commonly referred to as a ‘double chin’, 67% of people in this country are troubled by fat accumulation under their chin area. The cause may be genetics, weight gain or aging but whatever the reason, a double chin often leads to self-consciousness and mental preoccupation because it detracts from harmonious facial symmetry. A youthful, fit appearing neckline demonstrates a distinct, sharp jawline or strong cervicomental angle. This angle is obscured and the crisp profile is lost when a double chin is present. Over-all, this ages our appearance.
In the past, the only treatment available was liposuction. Now we have another choice. Allergan the makers of Botox, have introduced Kybella, (deoxycholic acid) a new and unique fat dissolving medication which offers a non-invasive, non-surgical way to eliminate submental fat. Kybella was FDA approved in the US in 2015 after the results of 20 separate clinical trials involving 1600 patients showed it to be safe and effective.
Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occuring bile acid responsible for the break-down dietary fats in the body. When this is utilized to treat the fat of a double chin, Kybella dissolves the adipocytes (fat cells) permanently. As shown in these before and after pictures, you can really see the difference Kybella can make.
Treatment is quick and simple: A topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area and when numb, several superficial Kybella injections place the medication into the unwanted fat. Swelling is to be expected and redness, and bruising are possible but all are transient and resolve within 2 – 3 days. The results evolve gradually over the next few weeks and dependent upon the amount of fat to be treated, more than one treatment may be required. Because the fat cells themselves are destroyed, the resolution of fat is final.
