Men and women alike struggle with hair loss and the process of thinning hair can be devastating to a person’s self-esteem regardless of gender. The actual causes are many ranging from various types of alopecia, genetic traits or even hormonal changes during menopause. The onset of hair loss for both sexes can occur at any time after the teenage years. However, there are hair regrowth options available for those hoping to stop their hair loss.
Hair Regrowth with Red Light Therapy
Low level Laser Light Therapy (LLLT) is among the newer hair loss treatments being used today and we at the The Randali Centre have been so impressed with its effectiveness that we are now offering this option to our patients.
Laser Light Therapy is a safe technology for men and women who are experiencing hair loss , thinning hair or poor scalp conditions. This laser light therapy provides energy, to the cells of the hair follicle which increases cell metabolism. This increased energy to the frail hair follicles stimulates the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Pairing LLLT with Propecia or Minoxidil increases treatment results. As with treatments such as Propecia and Minoxidil, some patients tend to respond better to LLLT than others. Patients who have had hair follicle transplant surgery are especially encouraged to do LLLT in the first year after their surgery. The growth of the transplanted hair follicles is enhanced with post-surgery LLLT.
Alternative to Hair Transplants
Painless, non-invasive hair restoration treatment with low level light is very exciting. This laser light source does not produce thermal heat, therefore no cutting or burning sensation is experienced. The Laser strengthens and regenerates hair root which in turn, slows, stops or even reverses the degenerative process. Blood circulation increases to the scalp, hair follicles are stimulated and cell growth is promoted.
Benefits of Laser Hair Treatments are:
- Stimulates hair follicles and hair growth
- Increases the blood supply to the scalp after only one treatment in 54% of patients
- Strengthens hair thickness and elasticity
- Stops the progression of hair loss in 85% of patients
- Repairs damage caused by chemical products
Laser treatments are often used in conjunction with topical treatments as each intensifies the result of the other. It’s important to address hair loss early on: Don’t let the follicles die. Treatment response is best for those in the earlier stages of hair loss. Make an appointment to discuss your hair loss challenges in a private consultation with Dr Cohen and see if Low Level Light Therapy can benefit you.
Generally, hair loss in patches signifies alopecia areata. Alopecia areata typically presents with sudden hair loss causing patches to appear on the scalp or other areas of the body. If left untreated, or if the disease does not respond to treatment, complete baldness can result in the affected area, which is referred to as alopecia totalis.
Pattern balding is distinct from alopecia areata, which commonly involves patchy hair loss. Extreme forms of alopecia areata are alopecia totalis, which involves the loss of all head hair, and the most extreme form, alopecia universalis, which involves the loss of all hair from the head and the body.
Baldness typically refers to excessive hair loss from your scalp. Some people prefer to let their baldness run its course untreated and unhidden. Others may cover it up with hairstyles, makeup, hats or scarves. And still others choose one of the medications or surgical procedures that are available to treat hair loss.
