Sclerotherapy

Varicose Vein Treatment in Lancaster PA

Painless injections

Reference to varicose veins dates back thousands of years. They have been depicted in Egyptian Art and have been referred to in the Bible. Roman soldiers commonly wrapped their legs in leather bindings to treat the leg fatigue so often associated with varicose veins.

Clients visit our vein treatment center to avoid leg vein surgery and ask our varicose veins doctor to relieve symptoms of burning, throbbing, heaviness or cramping. Even tiny spider veins can be symptomatic by causing the psychological distress of self-consciousness and embarrassment. To get rid of spider veins is virtually painless when treated by Dr. Cohen.

Laser Treatment for Spider Veins is “iffy”

Although lasers are currently being touted for treatment of spider leg veins, the results can be disappointing. “Spider vein treatment with this modality is “iffy”: If the vein is small enough; if the vein is very superficial to the skin; if these veins are not under high pressure (being fed by a larger vessel) then laser treatment may be effective. If this is not the case, treatment is ineffective and money has been wasted.

Sclerotherapy before and after

Before and after one treatment

The ‘gold standard’ of treatment for leg veins is sclerotherapy. This process involves injections of a strong medication (scleroscent) into the vein through a tiny needle. The vein then scars shut and over a period of 2 to 6 weeks, disappears. The injections are virtually painless. There is no downtime, and the aftercare is simple: daily walking and use of a compression stocking for 3 to 10 days. The number of treatments required will of course depend on the extent of veins that need to be treated.

Having performed sclerotherapy forover 20 years, Dr. Cohen is skilled and proficient. She has pleased numerous patients with results that allow them to again wear  shorts and bathing suits with renewed confidence.
